Earlier Thursday, the governing Council of the European Central Bank lowered its benchmark interest rate from 0.05% to zero. Deposit rate lowered to minus 0.4 percent from minus 0.3%, the margin rate to 0.25% from 0.3%. Analysts were expecting a marginal saving rates at 0.3% and lower the Deposit rates to minus 0.4 per cent.
In addition, the ECB decided to increase the monthly bond buying program of 60 billion euros to 80 billion euros.
