Dutch gymnast Yuri van Gelder has been eliminated from contention for the 2016 Olympics because of a violation of the regulations. The athlete left the Olympic village and spent the night in the bars of Rio, taking alcohol on the occasion of reaching the final of the competition, writes the Daily Mail.
The representative of the Dutch team said that the management had no other options but to remove games from the 33-year-old athlete, because this behavior is unacceptable. Yuri van Gelder is not saved even available regalia, gymnast world champion 2005 and repeated prize-winner of competitions.
Due to its scandalous actions, as van Gelder has become a hero memes and photojob in social networks. They even gave him the nickname “Lord of the booze”, by analogy with the original name of the popular trilogy. Earlier in 2009, van Gelder was expelled from the Dutch gymnastics Union for cocaine use.
