The diet of Russians less in line with the recommendations

Питание россиян все меньше соответствует рекомендациям

In Russia significantly reduced the consumption of meat, milk and fish, their place is occupied by potatoes, cereals, pasta, eggs. As a result, the diet of Russians less in line with the recommendations of doctors.Such changes, according to “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”, was recorded by the ROMIR holding, studied buy 10 thousand citizens.

For the past two years, food imports to Russia fell by almost a half. Own production is growing, but an order of magnitude slower.

The rise in price of meat by 15% in 2015 relative to 2014 has reduced its consumption by about 2.5%. Even more by the end of 2015 reduced the consumption of fish and seafood (12.2% versus 2014) and frozen semi-finished products (by 11.3%). These categories contain a significant share of imported products, and therefore the prices followed the increase in the exchange rate, according to the research of holding.

Consumption of cheese decreased by 10%, but at the same time people are more likely to buy a soft and processed cheese – in this category, consumption growth at the end of last year by 12%.

Illustrative is groceries and eggs. Last year the Russians began to consume more, despite rising prices. The consumption of grocery products increased by 6% compared to 2014, eggs – by 3%.

I had to save money and on some kinds of vegetables: for example, the consumption of tomatoes has declined over the past year by 10%. But, add in “ROMIR”, people began to consume more potatoes (7%), cabbage (11%), beets (8%). And this can also be seen an attempt to find a substitute for meat, fish and other more expensive vegetables.

According to the latest data of Rosstat, in January 2016, the food inflation was 9.2 percent compared with January of 2015. However, if we take the last two years, food products in Russia rose by more than 30%, follows from the official statistics.

It is obvious that because of such savings on the foods the diet of many families less corresponds to recommended by doctors norms. After all, before the devaluation of the ruble in 2014 and 2015, before the food embargo on many categories of goods, the Russians were undernourished.

On the recommendation of the Ministry of health, reminds the edition, the consumption of meat and meat products should be between 70 to 75 kg per person per year, fish and fish products from 18 to 22 kg per person per year, milk and dairy products – from 320 to 340, vegetables and melons (excluding potatoes) – from 120 to 140, fruits and berries – from 90 to 100.

As follows from the data of Rosstat, we can talk about a chronic shortage in the diet of Russians milk, dairy products, vegetables and fruits. For example, in 2014 the consumption of milk amounted to about 244 kg per year per capita, vegetables and melons (excluding potatoes) – 111 kg, fruits and berries – 64 kg per year per capita.

Less noticeable deviation from the norm in the consumption of meat and fish. For example, meat and meat products the Russians the last few years, the norm still fit. However, in this case, the Rosstat takes into account including the offals of the second category and fat, raw.

The consumption of meat and meat products, including offals of the second category, compiled in 2012-2014 by about 74 kg per year per capita. If we exclude the by-products of the second category, then the consumption of meat and meat products in 2012-2014 was slightly below the norm of around 69 kg per year per capita.

The offals of the second category is languages without the head, lungs, throat, tripe, pork stomach, ears, lips, legs of pork and lamb, spleen, trachea, beef feet, pork tail, etc.

Even more revealing is the situation with the fish. Previously Rosstat brought data on the consumption of fish and fishery products in live weight (weight raw), and product weight. In the first case, the indicators have obviously been higher. However, since 2013, Rosstat takes into account the consumption of fish not marketable, but only in its raw weight. In this approach, the Russians allegedly even higher than the norm of fish consumption, although in reality things are not so well.
