According to him, the main task of is to ensure the safety of the naval base in Tartus and located in the coastal area of the ships of the operative connection of the Navy of Russia against possible threats from the air.
Konashenkov added that it is not clear why the location in Syria of s-300 caused a stir in the West.
“Let me remind you that the s-300 is a purely defensive system and no one poses no threat. Moreover, earlier, as you know, the region was a similar system for marine applications – complex “Fort”, which is equipped with guided-missile cruiser of the black sea fleet “Moscow”, — he stressed.

Peskov commented on the supply to Syria of s-300
Earlier that Russia deployed in Syria, the latest air defense system s-300VM (SA-23 Gladiator in NATO terminology), the channel Fox Newsсо with reference to three unnamed sources in Washington.
