The Bakhrushin Museum opens exhibition on the 125th anniversary of Michael Chekhov

In Moscow on 8 June, the theatre Museum Bakhrushin on the site of the house-Museum of M. S. Shchepkin opens the exhibition “Humanist fierce time.” Exposition devoted to 125th anniversary from the birthday of Michael Chekhov, who was a prominent actor, Director and theater teacher.

Michael Chekhov called a brilliant student of Stanislavsky. In the global performing arts Chekhov occupies a special place. Theatre critics at the time wrote about the amazing ability of Chekhov to switch suddenly the audience from joy to a sense of acute sadness, from laughter to tears.

The exposition will acquaint visitors with the work of Michael Chekhov, as well as iconic and important events in his life. The exhibition will show unique photos and film, on which the Czechs captured in brilliant images in theater and film. Of particular interest are the personal belongings of Michael Chekhov, among which there is a membership card of the American Academy of motion picture arts and Sciences and a notebook.

Michael Chekhov in Russia have worked for more than 20 years, then in 1928 he toured around the world. In English Dartington hall in 1935 opened the Chekhov theatre school, which in 1938 was converted into a theater and moved to America. Until the last days of his life, Chekhov was engaged in teaching, living in US and acting in Hollywood. Among the disciples of Michael Chekhov and celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Anthony Quinn, Marlon Brando and others.
