Federal Prosecutor of Belgium launched an investigation into the attack on two police officers committed by a man with a machete.
Belgian law enforcement authorities have deemed the attack an attack of a man with a machete on police officers in the Belgian city of Charleroi.
“Federal prosecutors informed us about the beginning of the investigation into the assassination attempt on terrorist convictions,” – said at a press conference, Prime Minister Charles Michel.
On the same day the Prosecutor announced that he was attacked by a 33-year-old citizen of Algeria K. B., who was previously known to the police in connection with various crimes not related to terrorism. He lived in Belgium since 2012.
The attack on Saturday, August 6, one of the police officers taken to hospital with wounds to the face, the second received minor damage. The offender was wounded by another police officer and later died in hospital.
According to the authorities, during the attack he shouted “Allah Akbar”. The incident occurred at the police station.
