Tarusa sketches

“Beautiful, wonderful landscape,
Where autumn made a fire,-
About this painter will tell us
And we will support this conversation.”

I. Esaulkov

And to become the owner of these lands, he offered farmers a deal in which the exchange of lands was made under the scheme: two acres of meadow and arable land was given over per acre sandy hill. Such “unprofitable” deal he could make only a creative person, in pursuit of his dream – the construction of the nest artists”, later turned, as dreamed by V. D. Polenov in a public Museum.

From us to him – a prostration and hearty thanks, for the unique opportunity to touch the beautiful in the lap of the amazing nature of Central Russia.

We must pay tribute to the Oka distances, though grown over the years, the trees, they still have not lost their appeal and allure to your breaks young artists, successors of the Polenov’s landscape school.
In a letter to K. Korovin, Vasily Dmitrievich wrote: “I would like to show You our Oka, with its perch, burbot, pike perch and even sterlet. After we first discovered her beauty and choose a place for the community.”

These lines reveal to us the V. D. Polenov, as a passionate angler that wanted to “treat” the fishing fun of his friend. But, in fairness, we note that “place of residence” K. Korovin myself here and not bought, and, apparently, rarely visited these places. But in 1892, he was definitely here, as evidenced by his painting “On the Oka river”, dated this year. Looking at the picture of V. Serov “Artist K. Korovin on the river Bank” it’s hard to say whether it is an Eye, and it may be and Nerl, on the banks of which the artist was his house, which loved to visit with F. I. Chaliapin.

But back on the banks of the Oka. Much water has flowed since then, but now few people are surprised Oka pike or perch. Yes, there is a pike, not so long ago just downstream from the estate “Polenovo” at Volkovskoe village of Oka eddy was famous for its catfish, as I would say the largest on the eye. As for the sterlet, mentioned by V. D. Polenov, as noted by the annals of those times, she was caught on a worm on a fishing rod, seven inches in length, i.e. about one kilogram weight.

There are now numerous attempts to revive the fishing population of sterlet in the eye, which released thousands of fingerlings with a length of about 10 cm Survives a small percentage of the population. But given that the natural enemies have no adult sturgeon, and the commodity weight up to 400, it takes only three or four years, when you have anti-poaching such attempts seem bright. Especially when there is gravel needed for spawning.

It is encouraging that on the top-the banks of the Volga, something similar to Tarusa, sturgeon decent size is not only usual, but also quietly sold. On the Oka, as the penalties for thieves and the principle of “catch and release” for conscious.

While our teplohodik slowly from “Polenovo” is sent to Tarusa, the main hero of our essay of K. G. Paustovsky, you can tidy up your record, fortunately, that is a lot of excitement. And as used to say N. M. Przewalski: “the traveler has no memory”, thereby encouraging us, wandering, keep diaries, preferably detailed.

From the village of Bekhovo, where in the local cemetery and buried themselves V. D. Polenov, visible discreet outlines of the city of Tarusa, among which, the closer, stands out the Cathedral of Peter and Paul.

And here it should be noted the attractive force and the charming beauty of the Russian river, starting their slow, seemingly, running in the Orel region and terminating at the walls of the ancient Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. Oka beautiful in all its extent, but in the area of Tarusa especially good.

In Tarusa, in a wonderful way the beauty of the river combined with the beauty of the “refuge of art and science”. That’s called the Tarus, to preserve its identity and rhythm of life to the present day. And in the “shelter” live: M. Tsvetaeva, N. Z, B. Ahmadulina, G. Oster, A. S. Novikov-Surf, N. Vatagin and other celebrities, list of which is very difficult. And therefore we will leave this occupation for more meticulous, let’s go on to K. G. Paustovsky, who lived here for the last fourteen years of his life.

Right now, in the days of Constantine G. garden, of course, was more modest, and the river Tarusa deeper, since he’s on the boat floated on it to the eye.

Wandering the streets of Tarusa, suddenly turning into ravines, Hiking trails, begin to feel some kind of magic attraction of Tarusa. It is no accident that settled in the neighborhood, practically within sight of the great landscape painter V. D. Polenov and an outstanding writer K. G. Paustovsky. Here time is clearly slowing down, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy a leisurely way of life in harmony with Nature.

And Nature, in its rich, vast, alluring vistas, airy open spaces, wooded cliffs and river expanse. Something similar can be tested except that, in Solotcha, Yes, perhaps, in Kasimov, which, again, is connected with the eye, which, undoubtedly, contributes: sunrises, sunsets, night fishing fires, the whistling of duck wings, the splash of fish, the rustle of the waves…

“The angler’s easier to just open the beauty of nature, her smoldering beauty”. Good point K. G. Paustovsky “secret charm” and attracts at Oka beach, in the Tarusa expanse-the expanse of not only creative people: writers, poets, artists, but anglers of all preferences.

“A wonderful lesson! Like a quiet insanity. And very nice, and not dangerous to others”, talking about fishing Chekhov. But Anton Pavlovich also tasted the joy of life and the creative impulse, living in the village of Bogimovo, near Tarusa, that later they were used in writing the work “the House with mezzanine”.

“The day fishing – as one of the most peaceful and happiest days in his life” thought K. G. Paustovsky, and us, straight after, into the soul asks another of his statement: “the Entire elegance of the Bay of Naples with its feast of colors I will give for the wet willow shrub on the sandy Bank of the Oka…”.

Here it is the Gulf of Naples, in front of You, and for admiring the wet willow Bush best will go to Oka beach in Tarusa, on the measured life which, thank God, a greater impact of the lives of creative people than settlers memorable “101” kilometers.
