Three years ago the diver Alan Sutton, flying by helicopter over the coastline of Tanzania, noticed a strange stone protrusions on the bottom. It took me three years to find these sunken ruins, but efforts paid off. Archaeologists said that this is most likely the famous commercial city known as Rapta.

It is believed that this ancient city – the first true metropolis of Africa, and was well-known for its huge turtles and markets metal products. This thriving metropolis was one of the richest cities in the world. Famous African city was mentioned in the book “Geography” of the famous Egyptian Ptolemy, who argues that the existence of the city in Egypt and Rome it was known 2000 years ago in 50 BC.

But suddenly Rapt disappeared over 1600 years ago. Archaeologists have tried to find the lost city for many years. Scientists tried to piece together the puzzle, but I couldn’t even decipher the location of what historians have dubbed “the lost city of Rhapta”.

Fortunately, the observant diver managed to miss the ruins of prosperous thousands of years ago, the port city, which is considered the first African metropolis and a trading partner of Egypt and Rome. But as the city disappeared more than 1500 years, very little is known about the culture of Rapti and its subsequent decline, and eventual death. For many decades the location of Rapti nothing was known.

Official confirmation of the fact that this is Rapta, no, but the preliminary results of underwater exploration near a private island off the coast of Tanzania is encouraging. When Alan Sutton first saw the city, he took a picture, but then realized what a find he had.

In the end, the diver returned to Tanzania and tried to find the sunken city. He was for three long years, due to the highly turbid water in the region. Finally, the diver was lucky and he managed to open flooded the African metropolis after the spring floods.

Sutton could not believe his eyes: he saw at the bottom of the incredibly large stone circle, which he felt served as a Foundation for a large area. Around the perimeter of the basement were thousands of blocks, which for thousands of years fell off from the Foundation of the giant circle. Once prominent archaeologists visited the ancient ruins, they assumed that this is the lost city, which historians sought to find.

The architecture clearly had traces of significant Roman influence. This confirms that the age of the city is directly related to the time period when Rapta flourished and was the metropolis, as stated in ancient records.

Now scientists from around the world competing in the attempt to recover the artifacts, which confirm that the once great city was extremely rich metropolis in Africa, but this task can become incredibly complex. Archaeologists have to dive to great depths to get to the bottom and fix fragile artifacts. There is also a problem excavate large quantities of soil in order to get anything from the seabed.

There is also a problem excavate large quantities of soil in order to get anything from the seabed. However, it is still not proven that these ancient ruins are Rapey. To find out, a team of archaeologists have a very difficult job for many years.

There are strong indications that the city was built much more capital compared to the rest of the ancient ruins that have survived in this country, indicating significant foreign influence. Regardless of whether Rapta, archaeologists and historians have found a great city which was the ancient trading metropolis.
