The captain of Shakhtar Donetsk Darijo Srna became the first player in the club’s history, played 500 matches.
The jubilee match, the Croat made in the framework of the playoffs of qualification of League of Europe against the Turkish “Basaksehir” – “Shakhtar” won with the score 2:1 and Srna in a special shirt with the number “500” on the chest.
“I’m happy that I spent 500 games, but in the first place are the result of the team”, – said the chief guard in the history of Shakhtar.
“As you know, this is a huge achievement. Not every player comes to his 500-th match in the same club! We are all very proud of Dario. And I think his career will be even more matches for Shakhtar,” – said the achievement captain of his team, the Pitmen’s head coach Paulo Fonseca.
Srna made his debut for Shakhtar on 12 July 2003 in the match against Metalurh Zaporizhya. In April of this year, the Croatian in the match against Braga broke the record of Mikhail Sokolovsky, at the time, played at Shakhtar 485 matches.
Over 13 years in Ukraine, Darijo Srna in all competitions scored 48 goals and won 22 titles, including a victory in 2009 in the UEFA Cup.
