Spring, romance, Venice: guide for budget travelers

Весна, романтика, Венеция: гид по бюджетному отдыхуVenice can be called a Museum-city, because literally every area — in itself a priceless artifact. No wonder this city is considered one of the most touristy (read: expensive), it is visited by ten million tourists a year.

Flights

A good holiday in Venice begins with a flight. The cheapest tickets to Venice from Kiev before you could buy the low-cost airline Wizzair, but after the Ukrainian representative office of the airline has suspended its operations, a direct flight Kiev-Venice also ceased to exist.

Budget flights Kiev-Venice with a stopover in Vienna that offers Austrian Airlines. If you buy tickets in Venice for at least a month, the flight there and back will cost €200. At the time of publication this is the cheapest option, the prices for the nearest month — €350-400.

There’s another alternative, as cheap to get to Venice is to fly to Bologna. The tickets Kiev–Bologna, you can always buy for about €200. And if a trip to Venice will be here, this option can save you up to €200 on the flight.

From Bologna to Venice is reachable by train Trenitalia Eurostar and bus. The train departs from the Central bus station (to the airport, for just €2) and going to the station Venezia Santa Lucia. The cost of tickets Bologna-Venice — €22-26. Journey time 1 hour 25 minutes. To view the schedule and buy tickets Bologna-Venice here.
Seta bus is cheaper — €14, but goes less frequently and it takes more than 2 hours. If for you the difference in price is significant, see the schedule and buy tickets at Bologna-Venice on this resource.

Accommodation

Search for hotels in Venice — a thankless task, because the city is a tourist, and therefore prices are per room for one night here close to €200 (and we are talking about three-star hotels!). You’d be surprised, but it is much cheaper to rent an apartment in Venice (from €65) or live in gesthouse or mini-hotels in Bed&Breakfast format (from €75).
If living conditions for you not so important, can choose and hostels. Moreover, private room with bathroom in Venice hostel may cost only €30 per night.

Transport

Of course, the most famous and popular mode of transportation is the gondola. This island city is teeming with inviting graceful boats and gondoliers, but, in truth, is a tourist lure”. And spent €80-100 for a 20 minute ride not worth it. If, however, you can’t leave Venice without a ride on the gondola, I advise you to pick a company because other travelers from different countries, like you, want to swim in a gondola, but don’t want to overpay. In this way will not only reduce the cost of walking, but at the same time also to cheer up.
Much more economical, convenient, and no less popular in Venice transport — water bus, vaporetto, which takes you along the main routes. Cost of single ticket is €7.5.
Significant savings on transport in Venice is to purchase a tourist card ACTV. It gives unlimited travel for a fixed price: one day — €20, two days — €30, three days — €40, 7 days — €60.

If you and 29, suggest to purchase a youth card Rolling Venice (for three days it costs only €22) for unlimited number of trips in transport, and also gives significant discounts to main attractions and various places of the city.

Attractions

Venice is one big Museum under the open sky, and therefore have enough experience just from the contemplation of iconic landmarks. They have said a lot, but avid fans to go to museums we show you how to save on tickets.

There are tourist maps Tourist City Pass and Museum Pass. The first “opens the door” of the Doge’s Palace and 10 of the city’s museums, 16 churches and the Foundation Querini stampalia, just for €39.90. Museum Pass is a combined ticket to all museums of the city for €24. Buying such cards in advance, you will save not only money, but also time — you don’t have to stand in a queue for a single ticket.
Also can you recommend a free tour of Venice in English, which is the local enthusiasts. They talk about the city’s history and main attractions.

If a little tired from the traditional routes of Venice, go to Burano — colored miniature island, more like a fairy-tale scenery. There you have to swim for about forty minutes, but it is much more impressive than the popular Murano, Lido and Torcello.

Food

Restaurants in Venice are very expensive. Moreover, the high cost often is only because of the good location and good view, not the food. Also keep in mind that prices in menu at the entrance is often different from reality, and drinks — and does not specify, although in reality this cost often exceeds the rest.
But I do not walk because of this hungry — just go in at first glance, the nondescript trattoria. Yes, the interior here is simpler, but the food and prices are much nicer.
If you want to eat very sparingly, look in the nearest supermarket. As in the rest of Italy, even in small shops always sell fresh bread, cheeses, fruits and vegetables at very reasonable prices. The products are natural and very tasty.

The main our advice, perhaps this is not worth to stay in Venice longer than three days, in order not to dispel the magic city fler. Because either come here for a romantic weekend, or combine the sightseeing of Venice with a visit to other cities — say, Milan or Rome.
