“Solaris” Tarkovsky will be shown at the Cannes film festival

Directorate of 69-th Cannes film festival announced the retrospective of Cannes classics. It included a film by Andrei Tarkovsky “Solaris”. This is the official website of the festival.

The festival will show restored from the original negative, a digital copy of “Solaris”. Restoration of the picture was made at “Mosfilm”, and its produced by Studio head, Director Karen Shakhnazarov. It is assumed that after the festival a new version of the tape will be shown in cinemas worldwide and released on Blu-ray.

In 1972 sci-Fi film by Tarkovsky based on the novel by Stanislaw LEM participated in competition at Cannes and was awarded special Grand Prix of the jury and prize of the Association of film critics FIPRESSI. In the USSR the ribbon, first revealed in 1973, after which it for 15 years never left the limited release. Despite the fact that Solaris was only five in the Soviet Union, the number of sold tickets exceeded 10.5 million.

Except “Solaris”, in the Cannes classics will show a restored copy of 20 paintings, including “Valmont” by Milos Forman, fifth and sixth series “the Decalogue” by Krzysztof Kieslowski, “tales of the vague moon after the rain,” Kenji Mizoguchi, “Indo-China” by Regis Wargnier, “Male-female” Jean-Luc Godard, “one-Eyed jacks” Marlon Brando.

The “Cannes classics” also includes a few special shows. On them, for example, will be presented “Man and woman” by Claude Lelouch, “Ladies and gentlemen” Pietro Germi movies, divided the “Palme d’or” festival in 1966. Also on the program will be held a master class directed by William Friedken, a tribute to documentary filmmakers Frederick Waitmenu and Raymond Depardon, the premiere of a documentary film by Bertrand Tavernier, “the History of French cinema” and shows nine non-fiction paintings devoted to the history of cinema.
