In Farsi “Shamshir” (“s”) literally means “sword”. This Shamshir made in Shiraz, about 1794-1800, It is made of Indian wootz steel, in the slot inserted small pearls, finishing made of gold, on the blade – Persian poetic inscriptions and dedications. The ivory handle is decorated with gold, enamel, pearls. For decoration of the scabbard also used the tree and “fish skin”, pearls, gold and emeralds. The band is sewn in gold.
This sword was part of an impressive collection of edged weapons of the English king George IV. His monarch gave the Emir of sind (now southern Pakistan) in 1822
