The mosque-mausoleum of Shah-Cerami is a sight you just cannot miss being in Shiraz.
Shah-Accounts (Cerah) is one of the most beautiful mausoleums in the Iranian Shiraz.
His unofficial title of “Mirror mosque”: the walls are richly decorated with pieces of glass, jewels and silver plates, and the dome is completely covered with mirrors and smalt. The tomb of the brothers Ahmad and Muhammad, built in the 14th century, attracts tourists from all over the world. A very special mausoleum makes the internal finishing of mirrors.
The mausoleum was erected in the 14th century when Queen Tashi Khatun. “Shah-e-Cerami” in Persian means “Master of light”. This name it got because of the amazing story of his discovery.
According to legend, the Ayatollah Dastagir saw the light in the distance and decided to find its source. As he approached, he noticed that the light was coming from the grave in the cemetery. At the open grave, from which there was light, there was a body in armor and with the ring on his hand. The inscription on the ring reads: “Honor belongs to God, Ahmad son of Musa”. Thus found that in this place are buried the sons of al-Kadhim.
Brothers Ahmed and Mohammed were killed in 835 year during a fierce confrontation between the ‘ Abbasids and the Shiites. In the 14th century mass grave became a place of pilgrimage for Muslims. By order of the Queen Tashi Khatun over the tomb was erected a dome.
A very special and unique mausoleum makes the internal finish of the mirror mosaic. The dome from the inside is entirely lined with fragments of mirrors, glass a greenish color beryl and turquoise and precious stones, and the light rays are refracted in the precious chandeliers. The tomb, which is typical for the tombs of Shiraz, located directly under the dome and the alcove between the mausoleum and the mosque. The mausoleum of Shah-Cerami is one of the national monuments of Iran and the people behind it got the name “Mirror mosque”.
In the 14th century, the resting place of the brothers became a center of pilgrimage and continues to be until now.
