Our planet harbors a huge number of mysteries, phenomena that are difficult to explain even to modern science. One such puzzle – the origin of huge stone balls scattered across the vast valley of the Kazakh Mangistau Peninsula. To the layman it seems that this is a joke of giants or alien visitors, but scientists were able to find the true cause of their appearance in the desert.
Balls valley attracts travelers who flock to the Peninsula to see the boulders correctly rounded. The balls have different size and color, but mainly consist of sedimentary rocks (sand and clay). These balls are scientists called “nodules”. In examining the question of their origin was identified that perhaps the balls were formed as a result of electrical discharges, which appeared in the earth’s crust in zones of active tectonic faults. Scientists suggest who nodules were formed in those early days when the site of the modern valleys were waterways.
