Scientists have named another side effect of obesity

Ученые назвали еще один побочный эффект ожирения Excess weight increases the risk of developing dementia.

Researchers from the University of Oxford found that the age at which people are obese is a key factor for development of dementia later in life.

Overweight at the age of 30 increases the risk of developing dementia three times in a later age, say experts. They found that obesity in mid-life can speed up memory loss and other cognitive skills.

The researchers note that the risk of developing dementia may be reduced or increased depending on the age at which changes occur weight.

Experts analyzed hospital records for the period 1999 to 2015 – during this time 451232 people were hospitalized with a diagnosis of obesity.

It was found that at the age of 30 years, the risk of developing dementia in later life was highest, if the person was overweight or obese. At this age the risk begins to decline.

For people at the age of 40 years it is reduced by 70%, 50 – 50% 60 – 40%. People who are overweight at the age of 70 years at risk of developing dementia no more and no less healthy people.

At the moment scientists do not know why the obesity is at the age of 30 years are more likely to affect the risk of developing dementia later in life, but do not rule out that high blood pressure plays a role.
