Russia is supplying Syria weapons on favourable terms, including on a Pro Bono basis. This was stated by “Interfax”, the Russian Ambassador to Syria Alexander Kinsac.
“Given the fact that the financial capabilities of Damascus steel in the conditions unleashed by the terrorist war of attrition, the overall degradation of the economy and Western sanctions has decreased significantly, some supply free of charge or on preferential terms,” — said the diplomat.
Kinsac added that while part of arms and ammunition and supplied on a commercial basis. For the implementation of concessions in practice, different mechanisms are used.
Earlier, in September 2015, “Kommersant” with reference to sources in the sphere of military-technical cooperation has published the list of armaments supplied to Syria. In it was listed as small arms, grenade launchers, armored personnel carriers BTR-82A, military truck “Ural” and “other weapons necessary for the conduct of local hostilities and redeployment of staff of the Syrian army”.
The publication noted that the delivery was carried out in a Syrian account in advance (about 400 million dollars), listed above in payment for unfulfilled contract to supply anti-aircraft missile systems s-300PMU-2.
