The painting “the Pupil” by Russian Director Kirill Serebrennikov, who received the award at the Cannes film festival this year, leaves on screens of cinemas of our country. It is based on the play “(M)student”, written by German playwright Marius von Meyenburg. Before the start of the film, Serebrennikov has put this play in the Moscow “Gogol-center”. However, the Director admits that the film version of the story he had to change.

Benjamin – ordinary average student, by fate turned into a religious fanatic. He believes that the world is mired in evil, falsehood, lies and hypocrisy reign everywhere. The boy knows exactly how this must be addressed. He believes his mission is not only biblical laws, but also forced people from their environment. In particular, the opponent of the protagonist in this struggle is the teacher of biology who do not share the position of Benjamin. The main role in the film “Student” was played by Peter Skvortsov, who replaced Nikita Kukushkin, who played the main character in the play. Also in the picture appear: Victoria Isakova, Alexander Gorchilin, Julia Aug, Alexander Revenko, Anton Vasiliev, Svetlana Bragarnik and Irina Rudnitskaya.

The audience in Cannes was warmly received “Apprentice” – after the screening the audience gave him a lengthy ovation. The picture was presented in the program “the Special sight”. At the end of the festival “Student” was awarded a Prize named Francois Chalet, which honors the work, “best convey the reality of the modern world”.
