A two-day visit of the head of PACE Pedro Agramunt in Moscow will not be a precondition for lifting sanctions on Russia, but will only allow to measure temperature in PACE”. This opinion was expressed by the head of the international Committee of the state Duma of Russia Alexei Pushkov.
We will remind that on Tuesday, 6 September, in Moscow for two days there has arrived the head of PACE Pedro Agramunt with the heads of the leading political groups to discuss relations with the Russian side. Such a PACE delegation is scheduled to meet with speaker of the state Duma of Russia Sergei Naryshkin.
“This visit will not be affected, will be removed from us sanctions or not… we are Talking about the following: we are discussing the political atmosphere, the conditions are now created in the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, that is, we measure the temperature in the PACE in order to understand, we participate in the activities of the organization in 2017 or not to participate,” said Pushkov.
According to him, in these meetings, the PACE with the Russian representatives will discuss the prospects of a return of Russia to the PACE, in the sense, “as they consider how to vote in the parliamentary Assembly will put our powers into question whether the offer of someone to take sanctions against the Russian delegation.”
