Prosecutor General Chaika: we are in information war

The state office of public Prosecutor of Russia has begun check on “the Panama document” and sent a request to the authorities of Panama in connection with the offshore scandal, said the Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika.

According to Chaika, the check is in the initial stage, the results will be reported to the leadership of the country and published.

“We have no doubt that we are dealing with a carefully planned operation, the center of which a foreign country… the Leaked documents could not be without the participation of the officials. We are in information war,” – said Chaika, speaking in the Federation Council.

At the beginning of April the largest world mass-media there were millions of documents, which indicated that Panamanian company Mossack Fonseca in some cases has helped clients launder money to avoid sanctions and tax evasion.

In particular, the documents contain data about offshore companies associated with the family and associates of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, Bashar al-Assad in Syria, Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine and Vladimir Putin in Russia.

According to the “Panama records”, commercial Bank “Russia” used in a potential scheme to launder money, which could have involved a number of close friends of the President of Russia.

Shortly after the publication of the documents of the Prosecutor General’s office announced plans to check the information about the offshore accounts that may be owned by Russians.

Putin himself called the publication “the Panama document” an attempt to destabilize the situation in the country.
