The photographer has showed the beauty of the Namib desert.
For his series of photographs “the Place where there is nothing” Belgian photographer Maroesjka Lavigne made a trip to the Namib desert, hoping to find there, perhaps the only place on the planet, filled with absolute peace and quiet. She photographed the area in pastel colours, trying to emphasize, which here reigns the tranquility.
The name “Namib” in the nama language means “place where there is nothing”. Hence the name of the series of these photos.
The Namib desert is extremely dry (only 10-13 mm of rain per year) and, except for a few coastal cities, is virtually uninhabited.
The Namib is the most ancient desert in the world: desert or semi-desert conditions exist here continuously for the past 80 million years, that is, the desert was formed during the time of the dinosaurs.
Waters of the Atlantic ocean, washing the shores of the Namib, is extremely abundant with life; the shore of the desert attracts many seals, sea birds and even penguins, which, despite the African heat, nest on the desert shores and coastal Islands.
