Some of them look extremely unusual.
Half a century ago, the Soviet car industry produced a quite modern trucks with conventional construction. But if you look at the drawings and photos of experimental equipment of those years, one can only wonder. By order of the Ministry of defense gathered a lot of individual prototypes, which plays with cutting-edge technology. This technique, often looking like metromobile of the action movie “Mad Max”, was to help the USSR win the Cold war.
ZIS-Э134
ZIS-Э134 Layout # 3 was built in 1956 in a single instance. The pilot truck is a real laboratory for the study of controllability and cross-country, multi-axle trucks. The large wheel was the engine like on the ground and on the water.

ZIL-157Р
The following year, 1957, was built a prototype three-axle 2,5-ton truck ZIL-157Р. In contrast to the basic models from the conveyor, the product had power steering, wide or arched tires and system swap. It is also felt the cross, controllability, stability.

ZIL-136
Experienced an all-terrain vehicle ZIL-136 was built and tested in 1957. Car is original construction with three bridges and a monocoque body. The body of the carrier type was a novelty at the time, it is made of stainless steel and aluminum. Wheels front and rear axles were petroliagis, and the car moved from the 140-HP engine ZIS-110. Used tires as the traditional type, and arched. On the water the car was moving through water jets.

ZIL-132
A series of experienced freight models, followed by novelty 1960 – ZIL-132. Lifting capacity 4.5 tons, this machine was also a three-axis, providing a great move in the mud and snow. As disadvantages of the machine mentioned a little chassis rigidity in torsion, the unreliability of the chassis and the rocking of the truck at high speeds.

ZIL-132П
Model ZIL-132П began to develop as the amphibian floating at a speed of 5-7 km/h thanks to the installed jet. The buoyancy of the car provided the body is made of aluminum and fiberglass. Turbojet engine of the aircraft, mounted in the body, helping to pass the most difficult sections of the road.

Few people know that the KAMAZ vehicles were designed at the Moscow plant ZIL. It is therefore not surprising cabover cab models ZIL-132Р and ZIL-132РВ. They were equipped with V8 petrol engines, as well as many innovations on the chassis and transmission. The machine was able to overcome steep slopes up to 30 degrees and cross water crossings up to 1.3 meters deep. But, the maneuverability of the car, as the previous triaxial models left much to be desired. And gasoline consumption of the engine ZIL-130 was as much as 78,4 liter per 100 km.
