Фотопроект, помогающий женщинам обрести уверенность. ФотоA protest against the distorted image of women in the media.

“We. Women” is a photo project by Lithuanian photographer Neringa Recaste (Neringa Rekašiute) of true female beauty.

While still a student, Neringa began to study the problems of female body image in the media and came to the conclusion that we are constantly trying to impose a standardized ideal of female beauty. But is there an ideal beauty? Neringa believes that in the media the female body is portrayed as an object of sexual desire, the image of a woman focused only on her looks, not her personality. According to Neringa, all this has a direct negative impact on the society in which the majority of women are dissatisfied with their body and they have because of this, there are various problems, including psychological. The ideal woman — what’s she like?

Three women — a photographer Neringa Resalute, Lithuanian actress and TV presenter Beata Tishkevich, as well as PR-specialist Modesta Kairyte — decided to protest against the distorted image of women in the media and created a social project called “We.Women.

The goal of this project is to inspire women to accept and love her own body. As explained by the Creator of the project, women first must understand what they really are, and then take your body with all internal and external scars.

Twelve brave women agreed to participate in the project “We. Women. They decided not only to open to the world and to tell their stories, but also to appear before the camera in underwear.

Each participant had their own painful experiences because of appearance. However, like most women who hide their bodies because it’s either too thick, or too thin, etc.

The majority of the twelve women who took part in a photo shoot, really were much bigger problems than just her body dissatisfaction. One of them suffered from anorexia nervosa, another from bulimia nervosa, the third from albinism. Some of the women struggled with severe depression. And one of the participants was diagnosed with cancer of the breast.

“This project showed us the deep scars they carry women in our society”, — says Neringa.

Women who are trying to keep up with the standards imposed by the media and accepted by society at the same time, living under constant pressure: they always have to look perfect.

The relentless pursuit of the perfect appearance leads to the fact that women are constantly unhappy with your body, with the result that they have reduced self-esteem. That is why it is so important to talk about these issues and show real women’s bodies — so the authors of the project “We. Women.

“In magazines, we always show the perfect women. Actually it’s just one-dimensional photos which are fixed with the help of photoshop, ” says Modesta. — Our stories, scars and body is also perfect, because they are real”.

Beata Tishkevich said that “we are not only our body, the body is just a form of what is inside us.”

After Beate has posted a description of the project “We. Women” in his profile in Facebook, she began to write, thousands of women from all over Lithuania.

Beata read all of their stories and chose 12 women who were invited to participate in the project “We.Women.
