Robert Wark

This statement was made on Tuesday by the first Deputy Minister of defense Robert Wark, speaking at a conference in Washington.

“I want everyone to be absolutely clear, we are not going to fight with Russia, but it is silly not to pay attention to their military operations,” he said. According to him, due to the combat operations of the armed forces in Syria, the United States “received view” about their tactical possibilities of fighting. In addition, according to the Deputy Minister, Russia shows US “what they should do to make sure their operational and tactical superiority.”

He stressed that Russia “effectively uses” long-range missiles, in air space, sea and underwater. Wark pointed out that the armed forces “have increased the accuracy and efficiency of its already impressive fire power,” including artillery, combat unmanned aerial vehicles; increased the level “of collecting secret information by intercepting signals and messages, including in cyberspace.”

This time, Wark was not called Russia a “threat” or “challenge” as before, but described it as “a strong opponent” of the United States, along with China.

In a statement, he also mentioned Iran and North Korea. “They are increasing their potential and create competition in all (military) – in cyberspace, in the air, on land, at sea and under water, – said the first Deputy Minister of defense. And it threatens to undermine not only our advantage in the operational sphere, but also in some cases, our technological superiority.”
