Our carefree Soviet childhood

Soviet children lived in a different world. They were carefree, bright life and do not think that it was boring. Large feast with the family in national holidays. They went out of the house in the morning and play all day, back when the street lights were lit.”
The whole day no one could find out where they are – mobile phones not.

Collected here are a small selection of memories of different people about their Soviet childhood.

In the winter went outside to take a walk, and a neighbor boy threw in my direction a trifling cold, which, however, it split my left upper lip in two. Mom took me in his arms and took the tram to the nearest clinic, where no anesthetic crooked needle stitched lip. During the surgery, I was told “not to cry, and it will remain that way forever!”

I remembered how in my childhood we 5 times a day went to aunt Zoe (a resident of the 1st floor of the house) “drink some water”. The kids just wanted to drink, was too lazy to climb to your floor (or to go to another house, we called at her door, said “get a drink of water, we gave. While we have not encountered any feelings of discomfort, it is perceived (and this aunt Zoe, too) for granted. The present is now impossible.

Twice a year, in spring and autumn, we had a day of collecting scrap metal. The school arranged the whole event between classes: who is more iron trash will bring in the school yard. These days we prepared in advance: going pioneer with an asterisk (group of 10 people) and worked their routes, mainly for the private sector of the city.
Special attention is paid to the development of its uniforms: pioneer tie, which were mandatory, had to come up with a logo for its pioneering stars. Here it was, that some kind of magnet, in General, everything connected with the iron.
One of these days collecting scrap metal I was walking down the street and saw a huge piece of iron. This was a construction rebar, half buried in the ground. Without thinking, I began to dig it by hand. Worked for about 10 minutes. When, finally, I managed to dig it out of the ground, I suffered a long and quite heavy rod in the school yard. My piece weighed about three pounds. I was proud of. Then we drove through the private streets of the town car where we threw some rusty pieces of iron. By the way, on this day, our star won.
And help us rusty old Cossack, who somehow miraculously dragged the father of a classmate.

One day, a funny thing happened. We were high school students, sat in the last lesson, literature. Our beloved teacher Maria Mitrofanovna, standing at the window, enthusiastically telling us something about Bazarova, and maybe Raskolnikova. And suddenly, it changes in the face, grabs his heart, then open opens the window on a frosty December day and shaking their fists, shouting to someone: “Where? Misha?! Impossible! Oh, my God! Hold it!”
Then, dealing with emotions, she turns to the stunned class and asks Sasha with the first desks to flee to the yard where her son is a grade schooler and his comrades trying to pass it in the trash her entire filing “Roman newspaper” and “Foreign literature”. And in those times in these publications were published of the best works of our and foreign writers. Took care of them, meshed together, give each other to read one night.
In General, for an intelligent reading of the Soviet man collection of these magazines were a valuable treasure. Fortunately Mary Mitrofanovna, the disaster had not happened, the whole file was saved.

The pioneers I then passed a short time. Until March. Disgrace, was expelled for what scared his classmate. He wants to climb a chestnut tree growing near the school. And the reason I decided to lie to him, ran to the tree and yelled: “Nix, dirik go.” Classmate began to climb the tree and collapsed. Miraculously not killed. It were taken by ambulance to the hospital with a concussion. And I was ignominiously kicked out of the pioneers.
Later, however, pardoned, and 22 April on my neck again flaunted brand new pioneer tie.

If you bought candy at once in large quantities, to stock. In the package mixed up was “Squirrel”, “Kara-Kum”, “Swallow”, “Bruin Bear”, “come and take it away!”, “Petushok — Zolotoy grebeshok” toffee “Golden key”, “kitty-Kitty” and different caramels. Having stood in line and bought 3-4 pounds, us kids were given 1 thing, and the rest hid in a secluded place to holiday. But usually we are rarely content with little. And while the parents were at work, the apartment was arranged a “shakedown”. Hidden candy quietly, one by one, were taken out of the package and the wrappers were stored under the bed.
Wrappers — is generally a separate topic. They were collected and carefully stored in a box of chocolates. A colored foil is carefully smoothed with a fingernail. Sometimes the box got to admire the “treasures”. Dear to the heart of the paper was removed and long razglyadyvali.
