U.S. President Barack Obama in an interview with CBS News told about a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the problems of the Syrian settlement.
According to him, he said to the Russian leader that the ceasefire in Syria collapses, and insisted on coordinated action. The American leader stressed that the only superpower does not have to deploy troops wherever there is a crisis.
“New video shows what activists called the air strikes of the Syrian government. This new evidence that the agreement on cease-fire brokered by the United States and Russia, collapsing”, he said.
Telephone talks between Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama took place last night. Journalists of the TV channel interviewed the American leader immediately after the conclusion of the negotiations.
“My call to him was to demonstrate that we have begun to see that [the truce] is falling apart much more rapidly. And if the United States and Russia will not act in a coordinated fashion to keep it, to direct into the political mainstream and to the transitional period, we can return to the situation in which we were three or four weeks ago, and it will not serve anyone’s interests,” Obama said.
He explained that the main issue on which he could not find mutual understanding with Putin, the fate of the current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
