No meat, vodka is. Proproblem in the Donbass

Мяса нет, водка есть. Продпроблемы на Донбассе

The UN has said about the problems with food on the temporarily uncontrolled territories of Kiev Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

More than 1 million people trapped in the conflict zone in the Donbass, face a shortage of food.

At the same time, the leadership of the breakaway republics says that in their localities there are no problems with food security and providing the population with basic foodstuffs.

Correspondent.net has gathered information on the situation in the Donbass.

Meat is not enough

According to a study by the world food programme of the UN, people who live in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, most in need of meat products.

In particular, there are beef, pork and poultry, according to the Ministry of the temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons.

So, beef is not enough available or completely unavailable to the population practically in all territory controlled by the separatists.

This can be explained by the fact that in the territories of the LDNR, there are no large livestock farms for breeding of cattle. A similar situation is observed also with pork and bacon.

In the LC pigs for meat production are not bred – it’s just the management of the “Republic.” Now the head of the “Ministry” Roman Sorokovenko regularly reports that in the “Republic” of Russian imported pedigree young animals for breeding, and will soon begin providing their own meat.

With poultry the situation is reversed – on the territory controlled by the LC has two large poultry farms that produce chicken.

The problem with vegetables

Because of the mined land territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions inhabitants of the private sector can’t grow vegetables (potatoes, cabbage, carrots, beets and onions), which affects the quality of nutrition of the local population.

Citizens living along the demarcation line on the temporarily uncontrolled territories have full access to the following food commodities: rice, bread, dairy products, sunflower oil, sugar, sausage.

Foods to eat, but expensive

In a more or less large settlements LDNR you can buy almost any food, but not always at an affordable price.

The provision of products varies depending on the size of the settlement – the smaller it is, the harder it is to find everything you need. Also problems with food are acutely felt in areas near the demarcation line.

In Donetsk, buy a pork shoulder can for 160 rubles per kilogram (66 UAH according to NBU rate), the pulp – 230 rubles (95 UAH), chicken – 160-180 rubles per kilogram (66-75 hryvnia), sausages and sausage products – up to 300 rubles per kilogram (124 UAH), the newspaper said Today, citing local residents.

Potatoes can be bought at the price of 20 rubles per kilogram (8 UAH), cucumbers –from 15 to 45 rubles (6-18 UAH).

With alcohol all right

According to local residents, in alcoholic beverages in the Donbas there is no shortage. Mostly it is imported from Russia.

A bottle of vodka can be bought for 400 rubles (165 UAH), Donetsk residents doubt the truth of the origin of such products.
