A new study by researchers from the University of California at Berkeley will help in the treatment of male infertility, and create unisex oral contraceptives.
Biologists have found the tail of the sperm previously unknown receptors, which are activated upon reaching the egg. These protein receptors come into an active state under the influence of steroid hormone progesterone that is secreted by the egg. According to an employee of the University Melissa Miller, if, for any reason, the receptors do not respond to progesterone, it leads to infertility. Further study, says M. Miller, will help in creating drugs to treat male infertility and contraceptives for both sexes.
According to scientists these studies will help in the treatment of male infertility and development of contraceptives, however, can increase the growth of sexually transmitted diseases, according to “Ryazan city”.
