More than 37 million children worldwide are not in school

Более 37 млн детей по всему миру не ходят в школу

Armed conflicts and natural disasters have a serious impact not only on modern man, but also on future generations. As reported by the EFE news Agency, citing data from UNICEF, around the world more than 37 million children of school age do not attend classes.

This is largely due to a reduction in the number of schools. So, only with Syria after the outbreak of civil war in 2011, closed 6 thousand educational institutions. The premises are occupied by the military or turned into shelters for refugees. In addition, these buildings are often subjected to terrorist attacks. A similar situation exists in Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic.

As noted in UNICEF, about 462 million school-age children live in countries affected by humanitarian crises, 75 million of them need urgent assistance in education. In this regard, UNICEF intends to create a global Fund “Education is not waiting,” which will focus on ensuring access to education (by 2030 it is expected to help the 75 million children).

UNICEF hope that the schooling will protect the younger generation from falling into the network of traffickers, the recruiters of the various armed groups. The Foundation believes that educational programs are an equally important component of humanitarian assistance, as the provision of clean water, food and a roof over your head.
