Recently on the portal Kickstarter has the opportunity to sponsor the production of a new laptop EOMA68 different from all other mobile PC functionality, in terms of upgrade individual components. This, in a nutshell, the modular laptop, but for some reason he’s not liked sponsors.
The EOMA68 idea is that every separate element, whether it be CPU, memory, hard drive, battery and so forth, are enclosed in a housing a special cartridge that is easily removed from the slot and replace it with another: for example, a 4-core CPU to replace 8-core, and so on. On Kickstarter EOMA68 gathered only 150 thousand dollars, and now its fate hangs in the balance. The developers, however, do not lose heart and plan to use the obtained amount to the maximum efficiently. If all goes according to plan, the EOMA68 will go into production, and the first copies will be available for purchase in the first half of next year.
One of the reasons why EOMA68 was not very popular to “Kick” turned out to be not the most advanced filling, which, however, relates only to the prototype as the production version will be much more powerful. However, at the time of the launch of a campaign to raise funds modular laptop offered the only ARM-based processor from Allwinner, 2 GB of RAM and drive 8 GB. According to the plans of developers, the final version will be based on the cartridge with an Intel processor inside.
