The waiver of sanctions would be in the interests of Russia and Germany, said the Chancellor.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that it is interested in the lifting of sanctions against Russia, thus linking the rejection of restrictive measures with the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
The Chancellor has strongly criticized Moscow’s actions in Ukraine. Recalling that the EU has applied sanctions against Russia in connection with the annexation of Crimea and armed by Moscow’s support of separatists in the Donbass, the head of the German government stressed that no one is allowed with impunity to redraw the borders in Europe.
Merkel said that she was shocked when the first Russian tank crossed the Ukrainian border. “Today we are not talking about the same tank, but about very, very many tanks,” said the Chancellor of Germany.
In her opinion, due to Russia’s support of the separatists, there was not a single day that would respect the cease-fire in Eastern Ukraine.
At the same time, the head of the German government reiterated that the waiver of sanctions would be in the interests of both Russia and Germany.
“I am extremely interested in ending the sanctions,” said Merkel, once again linking their abolition with the implementation of the Moscow Minsk agreements.
“In a time when we will achieve progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements, sanctions will be weakened,” – said the German Chancellor.
Recall that economic sanctions on Russia were imposed in the summer of 2014. The reason was the annexation of Crimea and military conflict in the Donbass.
