Merkel supported the desire to create a common economic area of the EU with Russia
However, she stressed that the European Union could not compromise their principles in the light of the situation in Ukraine
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she supports the desire to create a common economic zone from Lisbon to Vladivostok, reports TASS.
“I’m for that Russia is gradually converging with the European economic space, so we ultimately had a common economic zone from Vladivostok to Lisbon,” said Merkel.
However, she stressed that the European Union could not compromise their principles in the light of the situation in Ukraine.
Merkel reiterated the need for full implementation of the Minsk agreements, the adoption of the law on the special status and local elections in the Donbass and ensure Ukraine access to its borders. “When this is done, we will be able to immediately lift the sanctions”, – she summed up.
