Merkel said the conditions will be lifted sanctions against Russia.
Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel said that EU sanctions against Russia can be cancelled only after the restoration of Ukrainian control over the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Donbas.

“Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel has placed points over “and” on sanctions: their termination – after the control of Ukraine abroad,” – said the diplomat.
In addition, as noted by the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Merkel expressed the belief that Russia is gradually, step by step moving towards a common European economic zone from Vladivostok to Lisbon.
However, such aspirations and the European side can not, according to Merkel, to force the EU to sacrifice their principles in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
She recalled that the sanctions were imposed because of Russia’s support of separatists in Eastern Ukraine, concluded in February 2015 Minsk agreement must be implemented.
Currently, Germany and France insist on a real ceasefire in the Donbas and conduct of local elections there.
Merkel stressed that Ukraine finally needs to access its borders.
As previously reported, in 2014 the European Union imposed sanctions against Russia in response to annexation of Crimea and aggression in Eastern Ukraine.
