The Ministry of sport of the Russian Federation may be liquidated in the near future. It is reported by”Soviet sport” with reference to the representative of the Government apparatus.
The functions exercised by the Ministry of sport, tourism and youth will be merged into a single Agency in direct subordination to the government. The new head’s name hasn’t been announced yet, the newspaper notes.
We add that in its current form the Ministry of sports was established in 2012.
Previously it was called the Ministry of sport, tourism and youth policy of the Russian Federation, and it consisted of divisions later allocated to the Federal Agency for tourism (Rosturizm) and the Federal Agency for youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).
Since 2008, this Department was headed by Vitaly Mutko. As writes “Soviet sport”, after reorganization of the Ministry, he can leave the office and get the status of Deputy Prime Minister.
Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the backlog of Russian national teams in several sports has become a chronic problem. “The last Olympics and showed the problem areas, unfortunately, in some sports, and their order of eleven, the gap has become a chronic problem,” said Putin.
“With all that we need to analyze the sports Ministry and the Olympic Committee of Russia. You need to take specific measures, and management of sports federations to draw the appropriate conclusions,” — said the Russian leader.
In addition, Putin said that the supervision of the spheres of sport, tourism and youth policy must be assigned to a Deputy Prime Minister.
“Sports, youth, tourism — these are all areas very close. We believe that we need to unite in one complex and to entrust the supervision of this work, one Deputy Prime Minister of Russia”, — said the President, adding that soon the government will make “specific staffing proposals.”
