Media: Kiev is able to make the project “Nord stream-2” unprofitable

СМИ: Киев в состоянии сделать проект "Северный поток-2" нерентабельным

The German edition of Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten says that the profitability of the “Nord stream – 2” will depend on the tariffs for gas transit through the territory of Ukraine.

Think tanks Energy Research & Scenarios and the European centre for energy and resource security (EUCERS), conducted a study according to which the Ukrainian authorities may take steps that result in the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” would be economically impractical. The German edition says that it is only necessary to lower transit fees — and then, Kiev will not be easy to destroy gas hopes Moscow and Berlin.

“The government in Kiev, according to the study, can make the construction of “Nord stream – 2″ economically feasible, lowering duties on gas transit through Ukraine”, – stated in the study.

Implementation of the project “Northern stream – 2” will make Germany “the main transit country of Russian gas and a major distribution hub natural gas to Europe,” the newspaper writes.

The study focuses on the “factors and major players, including Russia and Turkey – which are likely to significantly determine the future of European gas,” notes the German edition.

The first large-diameter pipes (LDP) for the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” arrived on the island of rügen in the Baltic sea. There they must betonituote the enterprise of the Dutch company Dutch Wasco Coatings, which is located in the town of Mukran.

After betonirovannaa fully prepared for the laying of the LDP will be deposited in a special area along the route. From there they will take on a special lay vessel, which will be engaged in welding of piping and installing it on the seabed.

It should be noted that the first tube was supposed to arrive to betonirovannaa on schedule in early November, but they were taken already. If the work will continue to get ahead of schedule, then a scheduled half pipe will be prepared for stacking by 2018, significantly sooner.

The project “Northern stream-2” involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The new pipeline is planned to build along the already existing route of the “Nord stream-1”. Presumably, the investment in the project will amount to about 8 billion euros and the total cost including project Finance will reach 9.9 billion euros.

Tensions between Moscow on the one hand and Brussels is growing, but the European partners “Gazprom” calling for cooperation with Russia in the energy sector and much talk about the positive benefits that will bring Europe the construction of “Nord stream-2” — essentially a twin to an already existing gas pipeline “Nord stream-1”.

While in the “Nord stream” European bureaucrats, who are sensitive to all sorts of political conflicts do not like in this project almost everything. They fear that Ukraine will not receive Russian money for transit, and for a Europe that is becoming too dependent on Russian energy, they also provide the project and financial problems – say, the money will be wasted. But the largest European energy companies look set to retreat and ready to make every effort to ensure that the project “Northern stream-2” was implemented.
