16 July 1951 published novel by Jerome Salinger “the catcher in the rye,” which led his contemporaries to resentment. The guardians of morality were disappointed with the allusions to sex and rebellious nature of the protagonist. The author gave the manuscript to print a year earlier, but then it was withdrawn. The publication in the future abruptly changed the course of his life: he became a recluse, forbidden to reissue early works, print letters and to film his books.
We decided to recall the works of famous writers who, for strange reason could not see the light.
Gogol
Nikolai was a man c temper. Shortly before his own death, he decided on a strange thing destroyed the second volume of “Dead souls”, which outlined his religious strivings, thoughts and reasoning. On the night of 24 February 1852 Nikolai Gogol had his servant to bring a portfolio with drafts of the second volume. He wrote a will and burned the manuscript. Speaking of the second volume of “Dead souls” he spoke as his great creation.

The next day, Gogol with sorrow and astonishment was aware of his action, telling count A. Tolstoy that he sincerely amazed at what you’ve done what you wanted to burn only some things in advance for something cooked, and burned, all under the influence of the evil spirit. Well, we got at least the first volume. Actually, it was planned 3 volume: the second was destroyed, survived only a few chapters in draft, and the third volume was planned but never started.
Kafka
In life, Kafka published only a few short stories, which did not attract enough attention. Throughout his life he wrote, but not published, and before his death bequeathed to burn all he has written. His lover did so, but a best friend disobeyed. He published most of Kafka’s works, which soon began to attract attention. So Kafka after his death became one of the most distinguished German speaking writers of the XX century.

Pushkin
Pushkin was himself a stern editor. He often tore pages from their drafts and destroy them. Also impulsive Alexander destroyed all drafts “the Captain’s daughter” and the poem “Robbers”. The pieces, which miraculously survived, and later formed the basis of the plot of “the fountain of Bakhchisarai”. The poet wrote on 13 June 1823 A. Nabokov
Mr Putin commanded to burn his novel “Laura and its original” because it was over — Nabokov couldn’t afford to publish a work in progress. Bulgakov
