The Paris court of appeal ruled that Luc Besson is obliged to pay 450 thousand euros in damages to American film Director, screenwriter and producer John carpenter, as well as the rights holder StudioCanal for plagiarism of the movie 1981 “Escape from new York”.

The script for the film “Naprolom”, filmed in 2012, Luc Besson has been fined in October 2015. John carpenter has accused Besson the use of previously invented ideas and images: at that time the court of first instance of Paris ordered the company EuropaCorp, led by Besson, to pay the plaintiffs 85 thousand euros (20 thousand – to the carpenter). However, apparently, the creators of “Escape from new York” it was not enough.

In fact, the original claim of the carpenter thought that Luc Besson and his company have to pay about 2.2 million euros: according to the American Director and his film was almost completely copied. Besson stressed that he was shocked by the judges decision, however the appeal it will not.
Recall that the futuristic Thriller “Escape from new York” with Kurt Russell in the title role tells the story of the war veteran, who under the threat of death is assigned to rescue the President of the United States, captured by rebellious prisoners. In turn, the main hero of the tape “Ahead”, played by guy Pearce, to rescue from space prison fell into the hands of prisoners, the President’s daughter.
