A unique photographic project that tells the story of a loving couple, who returned to Chernobyl many years later.
Currently in the gallery Kanya Berlin (Berlin) exhibition by Ukrainian photographer Alina Rudya. Series “Prypyat mon Amour” tells a love story against the background of what is happening in Chernobyl.
After a certain number of years the couple returned to their native land to relive the events of spring 1986. On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition the author of the project was requested to publish these memories as a book, and what happened on the eve of another Chernobyl anniversary.
Alina Rudya herself in his essay describes those days:
“Irina and Sergey met in August 1985. She was only 19 years old, and she studied on pedagogical. He returned from the army, at 25. They loved each other instantly, don’t need much time to fall in love. Where there is love, immediately followed by the marriage — at least then, in the Soviet Union.
Sergey was the member of the Komsomol — that’s where the idea came to make a non-alcoholic wedding for a young couple. After a moment’s hesitation Sergei agreed. Probably because he knew — the birthday of his father-in-law was the next day after the wedding. The wedding was scheduled for the afternoon of April 26, 1986″.
