Kiev opposes Russia’s presidency in CIS

Киев выступил против председательства России в СНГ

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nikolai Doroshenko at the summit of the Commonwealth of independent States (CIS) in Bishkek said that Kyiv opposes the transfer of Russia’s presidency in CIS. On Friday, September 16, RIA Novosti reported.

This position Doroshenko explained that the Ukrainian authorities do not recognize the results of the referendum of 2014 in the Crimea, the results of which the Peninsula was reunited with Russia. The diplomat said that Kyiv will take part in the census 2020 in the States-participants of CIS, if the Russian government considers the residents of the Crimea citizens of Ukraine.

On Friday, the Commonwealth summit has issued the decision to transfer the CIS chairmanship to Moscow from January 1, 2017. The next summit to be held in October of the same year in the Russian capital.

Earlier, on 15 September, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov noted that Ukraine at the summit in the capital of Kyrgyzstan will be the Ambassador in the Republic.

Crimea became part of Russia after the majority of the participants of the plebiscite on the Peninsula in 2014, voted for this decision. Kiev refused to recognize the election results. In Moscow, in turn, pointed to the line joining the Crimea to Russia international law.
