Jane’s has revealed details of U.S. supplies arms to the Syrian opposition

Jane's раскрыл подробности американских поставок оружия сирийской оппозиции

The Syrian opposition, despite the introduction of the ceasefire regime, continues to receive U.S. weapons and ammunition. This writes Jane’s Defense Weekly, citing documents published in the American system of public procurement Federal Business Opportunities.

As specifies the edition, for the past six months, the American government placed two orders to transport “military cargo containing explosives” from Eastern Europe: one 3 November 2015 and the second on 5 February 2016.

The first application was issued on November 19, the company Transatlantic Lines, a cargo ship Geysir was released on 5 December from Constanta (Romania) to Aqaba (Jordan). The cargo consisted of 81 of the container (the total weight of 994 tons), and half had to be unloaded at Aqaba, and the other on the basis of Turkish Agalar (near Tasucu).

Later, the composition of the goods in the application was fleshed out, mostly weapons and munitions of Soviet or East European manufacture. Delivery included mainly the cartridges of caliber of 7,62×39 and 7,62×54 mm (about 200 tons), ammunition for large caliber machine guns caliber 12.7 and 14.5 millimeter (487 tons). Also on the list are 82-millimeter mortar shells and gunshots to the RPG-7. In the list of weapons — machine guns, designated in the category as “AK-47” (probably different clones of a 7.62-mm Kalashnikov assault rifle), machine guns DShK and PKM, and the RPG-7.

A special place is occupied launchers anti-tank rocket complex “the trading Post” and the rockets 9М111М to him.

The second application, on 25 February issued the Schuyler Line Navigation company, whose ship Corsica was released on 28 March from the Bulgarian Burgas to Aqaba. The composition of cargo (117 containers with a total mass over a thousand tons) by this application were not disclosed.

The publication concludes that, despite the fact that the ultimate consignee in the documents was not stated, they are the representatives of the armed groups of the Syrian opposition who are fighting with the Central government in Damascus.

The agreement on the ceasefire in Syria was signed on 22 February 2016 and entered into force on 27 February.
