Interceptors MiG-31 will remain in service until 2028

Перехватчики МиГ-31 останутся на вооружении до 2028 года

Interceptors MiG-31 after the upgrade will be in service of the Russian space forces max to 2028. This was stated by RIA Novosti, the chief designer of the United aircraft Corporation, head of RAC “MiG” Sergey Korotkov

“By 2028, the fighter-interceptor MiG-31 will end its existence. Physically,” — said Korotkov.

He noted that it is impossible forever to upgrade equipment. “Until we have time to create new aircraft for replacement,” said Korotkov.

Earlier, in April 2013, air force commander Viktor Bondarev, answering the question of whether to resume production MiG-31 stopped in 1994, said that from his point of view this is not necessary. “My opinion is to start building new aircraft of the same destination, and before the end of the state armaments programme — 2020 then I think we will create this plane for seven years,” — said Bondarev.

The MiG-31, adopted in 1981, are designed to intercept and destroy air targets in wide altitude range. Powerful radar system of the aircraft allows you to fight including with stealth cruise missiles. The relatively poorly-equipped spaces of air border of Russia (such as, for example, the Arctic) MiG-31 are the primary means of defense against air attack.

Modernization of aircraft to version MiG-31BM, ongoing, involves the complete replacement of avionics, in particular, the installation of a new radar complex “Zaslon-M”. This allows you to increase detection range to 320 kilometers, to increase the number of simultaneously tracked targets from 10 to 24, and simultaneously shelled from four to eight. The ammunition load included new interceptor missiles RF-BD long-range (up to 280-300 kilometers).
