In Ukraine in the epidemic season 2016-2017 will be circulating strain of influenza virus H3N2 (Hong Kong).
This was announced by head of the Department of respiratory and other viral infections of the Institute of epidemiology and infectious diseases them. V. Alla Mironenko at a press conference in Kiev.
“Next season, epidemiologists expect the circulation of H3N2 influenza virus that appeared in 2014 in Hong Kong. For this virus characterized by the fact that the incidence of it causes a more intense epidemic: people can get sick more than last year. However, such serious cases as last year, there will be times when we have had a lot of hard deaths. Them caused the flu virus H1N1 (CA), which caused severe complications from young adults,” said Mironenko.
The expert said that the H3N2 influenza virus affects primarily the elderly and young children.
“A special risk group is children born after 2008 (organism which does not have experienced with that strain). They must be protected as carefully as possible. Those who encounter this virus for the first time, there may be complications in the form of pneumonia,” – said Alla Mironenko.
According to her, in Ukraine, the circulation of influenza virus H3N2 (Hong Kong), with high probability, will begin in December: then it will be the first cases of the disease.
“This strain is generally, “do surprises” for the New year. The epidemic threshold reaches the circulation in the second half of January first half of February 2017. We expect another wave of flu epidemic,” said Mironenko.
