For the first time in the history of the United States armed forces was headed by a woman.
General Lori Robinson headed the joint command of the armed forces of the United States.
The candidacy of 57-year-old Robinson was proposed by President Barack Obama, and later approved by the Senate.
The ceremony of entry into a new position took place at the Peterson air base in Colorado.
“As a military leader I will never forget my great responsibility to protect our land, our people, national power and the love of liberty,” said Robinson during the ceremony.
Prior to her appointment, she commanded the Pacific air forces of the United States under her leadership, there were more than 46 thousand people in Japan, South Korea, Hawaii, Alaska and GUAM.
The new commander – one of three women in the U.S. armed forces, which have the highest rank of four-star General.
