In the UK toughen punishment for corruption

В Великобритании ужесточат наказание за коррупцию

The UK authorities intend to strengthen the fight against corruption. As reported by the Times newspaper, the government of the Kingdom plans to soon make amendments to the relevant legislation, by introducing criminal liability for executives of companies and financial institutions, which launder money or evade taxes.

In addition, corporations will face multimillion-dollar fines if the investigation will be able to prove that their leadership failed to take adequate measures to prevent abuses by employees.

All of these changes Prime Minister David Cameron will present at the anti-corruption summit, which takes place today in London. Delegations from 40 countries will discuss ways to enhance international cooperation in combating corruption, recovering stolen assets, beneficial ownership, public procurement, fiscal transparency.

The theme of the fight against corruption and tax evasion came to the fore in many countries after the publication of “the Panama archive” – excerpts from 11.5 million documents that belong to the Panamanian legal company Mossack Fonseca. They contain information about offshore accounts of many present and former political leaders, social, cultural and sporting figures.
