In St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region law enforcement officers in the course of the search found and seized 30 guns, three machine guns, a large quantity of ammunition and main parts of firearms. The hideouts belonged to the members of the criminal group engaged in illegal arms trade. On Thursday, June 2, said the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR).

According to TFR, the group included the employee of management of Federal service of execution of punishments across St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region Mikhail Svetlov, a member of the special rapid reaction unit of the MIA of Russia for the city and region Mikhail Moshkin, St. Petersburg Leonid Svetlov, Dmitry Bogdanov, Maxim Romanov, Konstantin Dankov, Yuri Karachev and Paul Peshkov and a number of unidentified persons. They developed a plan to profit from the arms trade, have adopted measures of conspiracy and divided between a criminal role, the report said.

In 2015, the defendants acquired a significant number of firearms and ammunition in the EU and delivered the goods to Russia for sale. As a result of searches conducted by them in August 2015, was seized about a hundred weapons and a large quantity of ammunition. A criminal case is being investigated under part 3 of article 222 of the criminal code of Russian Federation (“Illegal circulation of firearms committed by an organized group”).
