The authorities of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro declared the emergency of the economic situation and a half months before the Olympic games to be held in Rio, and asked the government to allocate additional funding. About it reports Reuters.
In the official Bulletin published by the state authorities, it is noted that the difficult economic situation does not allow to fulfill the obligations of the Olympic and Paralympic games. Emergency measures introduced by the document are designed to prevent “a complete collapse in the field of public security, health, education, transport and environmental protection”.
The organizing Committee of the 2016 Olympics said that the difficult financial situation of Rio de Janeiro did not affect preparations for the Olympics, financed by private investors. In turn, the mayor of the city of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo PAES assured that emergency measures will not prevent to fulfill the obligations of the Olympics. He also stressed that work on all Olympic facilities, except the commissioning of the new metro stations will be completed a few days before the opening of the Games.
The state of Rio de Janeiro amid severe since the 1930s, the economic crisis in Brazil, is expected to face off in 2016, with the budget deficit in the amount of more than 19 billion reais ($5.56 billion). On 15 June the international rating Agency Fitch downgraded the credit rating of the state to the level of “B-” to “B +”.
Olympics 2016 will be held in Rio de Janeiro from 5 to 21 August.
