The Norwegian police has opened a telephone hotline, by calling to which anyone can confess to tax evasion. As Reuters reported, this will allow in the future to rely on the indulgence of the court.
In many Western countries, economic units of law enforcement agencies have stepped up their activities after the publication of the International consortium of investigative journalism data about offshore accounts. In the “archives of Panama”, based on a 11.5 million documents belonging to the law firm Mossack Fonseca, mentioned not only the political, social, cultural and sports figures, but also ordinary citizens. Among them are ordinary Norwegians.
The police revealed that the phone number anyone can use to disclose information about their assets, which were previously concealed from the tax authorities. This will allow them to obtain a much more lenient sentence of the court in comparison with those, whose guilt will prove to investigators. Usually for tax evasion face a large fine, but sometimes the court sentences the perpetrator to a prison term (up to six years of imprisonment for swindle in especially large size).
