The first test of the Ukrainian “innovation tank” “Azovets”, created for a regiment of national guard of Ukraine “Azov”, took place in Kiev. It is reported by the Russian military blog bmpd, conducted by the staff of the Center for analysis of strategies and technologies (tsast).

The creators of “Azovets” described it as “a tank for fighting in urban conditions” or “highly secure universal heavy crawler platform”. As a chassis for armored vehicles used chassis converted to bulldozer tank T-64. It is used to construct new armored body with two layers of dynamic protection “Knife.”

“Azovets” armed with two improvised combat modules, each of which is equipped with 23-mm aircraft gun of Soviet manufacture GSH-23, the Soviet PKT machine gun and launcher anti-tank guided missiles “Stugna” and “Le Corsaire” Ukrainian development.

Armored vehicles the crew consists of four people. They can observe the combat situation only with the help of video cameras.

“Azovets” was first presented to the Minister of internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov in November 2015. It was alleged that his “unique protection able to withstand nearly all known munitions provided to destroy armored vehicles”. Two weapon stations provide operators with a sector 180 degrees.

In early March it was reported that “Azovets” prepared for tests.

The development of the Ukrainian military after the presentation was appreciated by the Deputy Chairman of Russian government Dmitry Rogozin, who oversees, in particular, the state-guaranteed defence order and military-technical cooperation. “The military-industrial complex of Ukraine have produced an innovative new tank out of dumpsters,” — wrote Deputy Prime Minister on Twitter.
