More than 3.5 thousand police officers provide security in Jerusalem on the occasion of the Jewish New year.
More than 3.5 thousand employees of various law enforcement keep order in Jerusalem in connection with the Jewish New year Rosh-ha-Shana and in the next nine days before the feast of Yom Kippur, according to the newspaper Jerusalem post, with reference to local police.
“This is a common response to threats. Police increased security in and around Jerusalem, including shopping malls, bus and train stations, with particular emphasis on the security of the Old city”, – said the representative of the local police Mickey Rosenfeld.
“Special instructions to the residents there, they (the residents] should remain calm, vigilant and to do normal things as usual,” he said.
According to him, the border police “Magician”, special units and undercover operatives will be particularly involved in the early days of holidays. With the additional power of the security services will direct to the Old town, where it is expected the arrival of thousands of tourists-Jews.
Rosh ha-Shanah, which begins next Sunday, opens special ten days of the Jewish calendar – Noraim Yamim (“Days of awe”) which are conclude with the holiday of Yom Kippur (“Day of atonement”, “judgment day”) – day of fasting, repentance and remission of sins.
