The Colombian government and the rebels United.
The government of Colombia agreed with the leftist rebels FARC of the joint fight with the raw materials for the manufacture of cocaine – the Coca plant.
This is stated in a joint statement, representatives of the government and the rebels.
“Working together with local leaders and their communities has created the opportunity for the introduction together with the destruction, a voluntary replacement of illicit crops”, – stated in the message.
Henceforth, the government guarantees the safety of the delegates of the FARC in the process of implementation of agreements, as well as create financial programs that will help farmers transition to other crops.
The project with the support of the United Nations will start next month in the municipality Briceno, Antioch, where such agreement the parties reached in 2015.
Colombia is one of the world’s largest producers of cocaine. According to the UN, in 2014 in Colombia, Coca was planted with 69 thousand hectares, which is 44% higher than a few years earlier. Experts attribute this sharp increase to the arrangements of the government on a temporary truce with the rebels.
The government and the rebel organization FARC (Revolutionary armed forces of Colombia ) are in conflict for half a century, it cost the country more than 220 thousand.
