In Canada, legalized euthanasia

В Канаде узаконили эвтаназиюThe new law eliminated criminal penalties for people who carry out euthanasia.

The country’s Supreme court found the ban on assisted suicide unconstitutional in February 2015.

Thus, Canada became one of the few countries in the world where euthanasia is permitted.

While critics of the new law call it is too strict.

MPs rejected an amendment to allow euthanasia Canadians whose disease are not lethal. So, euthanasia will not be able to resort people with degenerative diseases, like multiple sclerosis.

To exercise the right to euthanasia in the country will allow only its citizens. Thus, the deputies of the parliaments wanted to limit so-called “death tourism” where citizens of other countries, where euthanasia is banned, could receive such services in Canada.

According to the document, voluntarily withdraw from life with the doctors can only mentally healthy people over the age of 18 who suffer from incurable diseases or have received such injuries, which will inevitably die.

The law also overturned the criminal prosecution of doctors performing euthanasia.

Euthanasia has been legal since 2014, but only in the province of Quebec and other regions is forbidden. The Supreme court of Canada ordered the government until June 6 to make the necessary changes to the legislation to legalize it, but the Parliament did not have time to make the necessary decisions prior to that time, creating a gap in the law when the de facto euthanasia in all of Canada is already legal, but not regulated by law.

Currently, euthanasia is permitted only in a few countries (Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland), as well as in some States of the USA.

In some States allow passive euthanasia in which medical assistance for withdrawal from life is not, but terminated the struggle for the life of the patient.
